City of Roses

‘City of Roses’ is a tribute to the enduring bonds of family, memory and place. Dedicated to Sly Morikawa’s mother, ancestors, and the city of Fukuyama, this book presents photographs of the city alongside a recurring motif of roses - a nod to their symbolism of peace and resilience in post-war Fukuyama, as well as a metaphor for grief and remembrance through Morikawa’s lens, inviting the audience to reflect on their own connections to the past. Each page celebrates the beauty of Fukuyama while honouring the legacy of those who came before.
